Business Writing Coaching Case Studies
Team Coaching
Team Coaching begins with a meeting of the managers and the Myers Method consultant to learn the goals of the team's writing and receive confidential sample documents of "meets" or "does not meet" expectations if possible. The objective is to learn how to approach the team's needs, strengths, and add value to the existing relationships by enhancing them with the refinement of the Myers Method for Writing. In addition, each individual will have the opportunity to strengthen writing skills in personal coaching with the consultant. This is usually confidential and via e-mail and phone.
After this assessment phase, the process is designed, and may include a live presentation to the team, or a workshop, or another format. Work may be conducted via e-mail, telephone, live meeting, or a combination. Specific reference materials and resources are developed for each team.
Personal Coaching
Personal Coaching may begin with a meeting with the individual and the manager, or with the individual alone. This may be in-person or by telephone. Coaching can take place via e-mail and telephone, with some in-person meetings at the individual's request. Confidentiality with the consultant is essential. We encourage an on-going discussion and accountability between the individual and the manager. Progress and achievement are dependent on the commitment and work of the individual and the support of the manager.
Contemporary communication standards are evolving, and openly sharing these issues is beneficial for everyone. Even editors do not agree on all standards of English! We are all learners, and we recommend The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. The usage panel gives insights particularly useful for business writing purposes. Sometimes a well-meaning manager gives advice based on "what I learned in high school" that is not what current business language experts recommend.
We design the process for coaching with each individual, and develop materials and resources to meet the needs we identify. Together we estimate the time required to accomplish the work. Each person is given study points and revisions of current work assignments and reference materials to review.
